6 Mindset Shifts To Be On Par With Highly Successful Businessmen

Building a successful business never starts externally, even if you’ve got a world-changing idea, the capital to sustain it, and the drive to make it work, you might actually fail if you’re not setting your mindset correctly.

There’s a reason why people consider successful people to be of a different breed, while it’s a huge exaggeration, they’re actually onto something.

Anyone can come up with a unique idea that’s going to shake up the industry. However, the success of any given business depends on the characteristics of the entrepreneur themselves.

Your mindset shifts can revolve around you limiting your choices throughout the day so that you can make big business decisions. Mark Zuckerberg famously says he only wears the same set of shirts every day, he just has dozens of copies in his wardrobe, which helps him limit his choices to only what needs to be chosen.

Successful businessmen do indeed think differently than the average person, and you’re about to understand how you can shift your mindset to be on par with them, and even exceed their success, starting with…

Do You Have the Need to Always be Right?

Far too many entrepreneurs believe that they know all there is to know about their chosen field and with good reason.

Any entrepreneur worth their salt probably spent countless hours researching their niche, target audience, and competitors and knows all the failed and successful precedents.

However, that doesn’t mean they’ll always be right!

You might know all there is to know about your business, but you might risk your success if you refuse to take advice from others.

We’re not just talking about people who are more successful than you, you might admit to being wrong to your employees as well.

If your marketing specialists suggest something you disagree with, why not test it out before throwing it out of the window straight away?

Invest More in People than in Data

You need to understand that you’re cultivating relationships if you’re going to be a highly successful businessman, if you’re running a company, and one of your employees has a sub-par p[erformance on paper, do you cut them off for the betterment of the business?

The answer is obviously no, while you might not have the time to understand what every single cog of your machine is like, you need to cultivate a relationship with your employees that goes beyond the data you provide.

Similarly, with your customers, or if you’re running a SaaS company, your users. Think back to how YouTube removed the dislike button. They probably saw that removing the dislike button would curb negativity and toxicity in their platform.

After all, they were citing that a lot of creators suffered from targeted dislike campaigns which was a detriment to their growth, so on paper, removing the dislike button was a net positive for the company.

However, if they took the time to cultivate an understanding with both their user base and their creators, they’ll understand the importance of the like button simply for credibility reasons.

By removing the dislike button, they opened a doorway for spam bots, and harmful videos to shine when previously they would’ve been buried in dislikes.

Not to mention tutorial videos were judged on their helpfulness by the like/dislike ratio on their videos, which ended up reducing the credibility of the platform as a whole.

If You Can’t Control The Wind, Can’t You Adjust Your Sails?

Let’s face it, you shouldn’t try to create a fail-proof plan that will steadily hit all of your goals, because that’s just not how things work.

At the same time, you shouldn’t go on with your business without a concrete plan, instead of failing to plan,m you should plan to fail.

You should create a business model that can accept that your business plan will inevitably run through setbacks, and as a result of those setbacks, you should be ready to accommodate and adjust the way your business is going.

Highly successful businessmen aren’t headstrong, they’re able to capitalize on every situation, as long as it doesn’t go against their morals.

Research done on children found that when they imagine only their goals, they’re unable to hit them a lot of the time, that’s because they’re relying on a dopamine hit to reach these goals.

However, when these same children imagined both the obstacles to their goals, and cultivated an “If this happens, then I need to..” method, their grades, attendance, and behavior improved significantly.

Ideally, you wouldn’t want to quit your business. However, not every venture is a successful one, what if you completely lose your vision? One of your biggest check marks to quitting is

Studies have found that we humans have what’s called a tolerance threshold, you see it all the time with bodybuilders who go on these extreme diets for years and end up binge eating and ruining all their progress.

The tolerance threshold differs from person to person. However, it’s a known fact that if your tolerance meter drops to a certain extent, you’re probably not going to be making your best decisions.

If you’re planning to fail, then your tolerance threshold is going to stay healthy and stop you from feeling like you’re straining yourself just to steer your business in the right direction.

In fact, if you’re expecting to fail, and you plan on what you should do when you do fail can actually create a better picture of how you’re planning to run your business, almost like you’re predicting your future by striving to create it!

This brings us to the next point…

Do You Know Your Limits? Understand That They’re False!

Most people stop at 40% of their capacity, so you might feel like you’re straining to keep up with your business, but highly successful businessmen understand that quitting prematurely isn’t the correct decision to make.

What you need to be doing is understanding just what it is that will cause you to quit. Marathon runners typically set rules that they will follow during the run, these rules are simply checkmarks they need to fill out, once these checkmarks are all filled, then it’s time to quit. Often, if you’re not conditioning your body to listen to these check marks rather than itself, then you’re going to end up quitting prematurely

Sometimes You Need to Swim Upstream

You need to understand that while there are some basics you need to follow when it comes to carrying your business to success, you’ve gotta be different.

We’re not saying you should always strive to be the devil’s advocate, we’re saying that you need to know when doing the same thing that everyone is doing is going to sink your business.

In that case, you need to understand that swimming upstream is the path of most resistance, and it’s how you’ll know that you’re growing. There’s a saying that goes: In video games, you generally know you’re going in the right direction if you keep running into enemies.

However, If everyone’s going in one way, you need to understand that while going the opposite way might not always be the right direction, making an educated guess as to how you’re going to differentiate your business is the best course of action to take.

At least you’ll be bringing attention to yourself, whether that’s positive or negative depends on all of the previous points!

What Does Sharpen the Saw Mean?

A lot of entrepreneurs can see a meteoritic rise, and then they stagnate, that’s because they usually focus on doing what they found to be effective, and neglecting every other skill that they’ll need.

Alternatively, a lot of skilled businessmen find themselves at the top of their field, so they decide never to hone their skills further, since they’ve already made it, and so they fall into the trap of falling behind the improvements.

Taking time to sharpen your saw is not going to delay your progress, in fact, it’s going to enhance it. If you’re always doing the same thing, your figurative saw will become dull, and its function is going to decrease.

Whereas if you constantly take time to sharpen your saw, you’ll never find yourself with a dull blade.

Simply put, you’re not going to be as sharp as you can be if you’re never taking the time to improve your skills, and at the same time keeping up with the times.

Sharpening the saw can be anything from constantly being in touch with today’s trends, to actively taking the time to do some deliberate practice on your skills.

Deliberate practice is when you practice your skills with a concrete plan to follow, rather than just passively repeating the same actions over and over, hoping for an improvement.
